Laughing Bear was built in 1930 by the Steiner Family, who also helped build Timberline Lodge (a world acclaimed resort). The Steiners also built over 80 cabins in the area. Laughing Bear displays many of their signiture trade marks such as bent wood and a dutch door with arched top. Once inside the cabin many people don't want to leave it's so relaxing, yet intrieging and charming. Fine, but don't forget your in the middle of the MT. Hood Recreational Area and surrounded by rivers, hiking trails,museums, ski slopes, golfing, and nightly entertainment. As you approach the Cabin nestled in the old growth forest, you can see the Steiners' signature Horizon Star fanned out above the porch steps and the naturally bent tree trunks and limbs used for the porch uprights and handrails. At the cabin, you will find a wonderfully carved Laughing Bear created by Mike Schmidt of Alder Creek Gallery. (If you love bears, you will want to visit his gallery...it is just a few miles west of Welches on Highway 26, on the north side of the highway.) On the back porch you will find a barbeque for your use, and a deck with a Hot Spring Spa. The spacious living room/dining room area
is cozy and a perfect place for relaxing by the fireplace.
Sleeping accommodations can be found in the master bedroom on the first floor, and two generously sized upstairs areas. Each of the upstairs sleeping areas has a vanity with a sink, one double bed, one single bed, chairs for sitting, and dressers that contain extra linens.
